Biography

Dr. Jithin Johnson is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Zoology at Bharata Mata College (Autonomous), Thrikkakara, Kochi, Kerala, India. He is an arachnologist and evolutionary biologist working on the systematics, taxonomy, phylogeny, and biogeography of poorly studied arachnid groups, especially pseudoscorpions. His research focuses on the diversity and evolutionary history of soil- and leaf-litter-dwelling arachnids of the Western Ghats, with emphasis on ancient lineages, short-range endemism, and biodiversity hotspots. He uses integrative approaches combining morphology, molecular phylogenetics, species delimitation, and biogeographic analyses to study diversification and endemism. His work has contributed to the understanding of Asian arachnid systematics, particularly Indian pseudoscorpions, Western Ghats biodiversity, and museum-based taxonomic research. He is also involved in teaching, field-based training, student mentoring, and arachnology outreach.
